Why East Riding

Transport and Connectivity

What are the transport links to and from the area?

Why East Riding

Road

The East Riding is located on both the north-south and east-west motorway systems, the M18 (to the M1 and A1) and the M62. The A1 and M1 are within a 30-minute drive of our larger development sites.

The East Riding is also situated on the E20 corridor. This European trading route links Ireland (Limerick) with Russia (St.Petersburg) via the North of England, Germany, and the expanded European Union states of the Baltic Region.

The M62/A63 corridor forms part of the multi-modal Northern European Trade Axis (NETA) and is a natural gateway for goods and raw materials vital to the UK’s manufacturing and energy requirements.

A range of high-quality employment sites along this corridor ensures that Hull and the East Riding are well placed to attract further large-scale foreign direct investments and major projects from key growth sectors.

Why East Riding

Sea

The Humber is the busiest port complex in the UK, handling 65 million tonnes of cargo each year and supporting 33,000 jobs. The major ports of Hull, Goole, Immingham, and Grimsby are complemented by modern wharf facilities which can be found along the Trent as far as Gainsborough and on the Ouse as far as York.

The port of Goole lies at the heart of the UK’s transport network, with immediate access to major motorways, rail and inland waterway links. It is the UK’s most inland port handling over 2 million tonnes of cargo a year, including dry and liquid bulk, containers, and forest products. The site has a dedicated rail freight terminal, as well as direct access to the M62 and EZ employment land at Junction 36.

Together with Hull, and offering daily and overnight roll-on/roll-off sailings to Rotterdam and Zeebrugge, a European market of over 320 million consumers is within a day’s delivery.
