Enterprise Zones and Freeports

In addition to its location assets, the East Riding also benefits from enhanced Government support for businesses looking to locate in the East Riding in the form of Enterprise Zone and Freeport allocations.

The East Riding Enterprise Zone sites make up part of the largest Enterprise Zone in the UK, comprising of 1,238 hectares across the Humber. The Humber Zone is made up of 30 sites which provides a flexible offer for many sectors, including offshore wind Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) at Able Marine Energy Park and Green Port Hull, and a rapidly growing operations and maintenance centre at the Port of Grimsby, also for the offshore wind industry.

Enterprise Zones offer a range of financial incentives for investing companies such as Business Rate Relief or tax allowances and have helped establish thriving business parks at Goole 36 and Melton West within the East Riding.

Freeports are the latest iteration of site-specific Government financial support and can be seen as a natural evolution on from Enterprise Zones. They offer similar benefits but are even more attractive with a wider range of potential incentives.

The full Freeport allocation process is still ongoing but the East Riding has initially been awarded over 300 hectares of land with Freeport Tax Site status.
